Helsinki based artists Egle Oddo and Timo Tuhkanen together with their son Aldo Oddo Tuhkanen have been invited to the Creative Home Residency programme in 2023-2024.
Egle Oddo (b. 1975 in Italy) is an artist based in Helsinki. Her work focuses on linear and non-linear narration as an art form. Interested in operational realism, meant as the presentation of the functional sphere in an aesthetic arrangement and its inter-relations, she combines photography, moving image, installation, sculpture, environmental art, and experimental live art. In her pieces industrial production morphs towards delicate handcraft, life forms appear and emerge out of sculptures and objects, film photography appropriate digital images, selected trash mix with fashion, precious edible minerals and ancestral recipes are served as part of ritual meals.
Timo Tuhkanen (b. 1983) is an artist-composer, curator, and writer, whose work intersects between contemporary art, music, institutions, instruments, and research into the cultural and historical aspects of touch. His work is concerned with designing and creating objects and materials, direct actions and socio-political interventions, instruments, institutions, and resources as an artistic practice through collective intelligence, relational and non-human aesthetics, as well as operational realism. Timo was born in Muscat, Oman and grew up in Jordan, Palestine, Israel, and also lived in France, England, Italy and finally in Finland. His experiences have led him to social artworks that try to go beyond nation states, individualism, religion, and colonial hegemonic and patriarchal practices to find queer, fluid non-European objects, conditions, and spaces for experimenting with the real.
Aldo Oddo Tuhkanen (b. 2011 in Helsinki) is a young artist and poet with Italian and Finnish citizenship. At present he is studying in public school in Helsinki and along with his routine he studies privately flute and plays water-polo. He is an excellent fork, loves foods, smells and tastes, and has a strong interest in chemistry.
The artists have been invited to the Creative Home Residency programme in November 2023 and during the summer 2024.
The performance wishes to address tiny, delicate, almost invisible acts of care that always happen inside a family, a group of friends, or the inhabitants of a quartier. After the performance, finger food and refreshments will be offered, and people are invited to stay and mingle.
The artists are collaborating with Residence Botkyrka and AllArtNowLab, and with this event, they wish to get to know the local art community and the people living in the neighbourhoods.
