Memory for forgetfulness
14 March – 29 August, 2020
Artists Afrang Nordlöf Malekian and Cristian Quinteros Soto present their ongoing research on memory and forgetfulness connected to political movements in the Chilean and Iranian diaspora. The project has partly been developed through Residence Botkyrka’s programme and is now presented in the Archive at Botkyrka konsthall.
A large group of people that came from Chile and Iran to Sweden between the seventies and the nineties, shared a background in leftist movements. The migration was partly a consequence of the coup d’état in Chile in 1973 and the revolution in Iran in 1979. These people continued to organize politically in Sweden – working together and separately. Many of these political activities are carried on by the next generation. As we are from the Chilean and Iranian diaspora, we would like to address this political heritage as an act of organization between these two groups.
During the last couple of years, we have been doing research through interviews, inviting groups and individuals for dinners as well as public conversations, and we have also visited various places that are part of this history.
